I started as an editor back in 2010 to subsidise my postgraduate studies; more than a decade and six jobs after, this part-time, temporary perk became my primary job. I have a passion for languages and I try to avoid boring people to death talking too much about the little linguistic things that make life worth living. I take pleasure in working together with authors, discussing, brainstorming, finding better ways to express thoughts and feelings; I enjoy less but equally excel in spotting minor slips here and there, the odd comma that dropped out, the remote inconsistencies, and all things under the blanket term ‘attention to detail’. Still, no matter what they tell you, editors work with people, not texts. 

I think of myself as a born-again classicist. After all, when you skip an early-morning Applied Statistics exam because at 05:00 you could not put down Xenophon before finding out what happened in 403 BCE Athens, well, you know your calling. I returned to the university to follow my life’s dream for as long and as far as I could: BA Hons. in History and Archaeology, MA in Ancient History at Athens, before moving to Nottingham to study for my PhD in Classics, where I taught various topics for a few years. It took me years to realise what a wonderful idea Isegoria is, and we are relishing every moment of it. Looking forward to working with you, I remain sincerely yours.

2010: the year that all began! This very landmark year (cf. Stefanos’ note), I sought to become an editor (a trained one, that is) out of love for the ‘written word’. It was also a way of taking a step back and deciding if I wanted to proceed in academia. Fast forward to today, my studies and work took me from Athens, Greece (BA Hons. in History and Archaeology), to Leicester, UK (MA in the Classical Mediterranean and PhD in Ancient History along with teaching), and then to Groningen, the Netherlands (Lecturer/Research Fellow in Ancient History). In 2021, I realised that I never managed to leave any of the two behind (nor wanted to), sitting comfortably on the interjection of both worlds (the borderline is at times very hard to recognise).

The idea of Isegoria emerged in 2015, although back then we did not have a name in mind but had very similar views with Stefanos, on editing, on academia, on supporting writers and working with them. The rest is now not history, but an adventure in the making! It is out of respect for our colleagues worldwide and those who stood by us since day one of this academic trip that we founded Isegoria. ‘Making it Fair for Scholars Everywhere’ is not just a motto but the very core of our vision and our commitment to work together.

Graphic Designer

I am an experienced graphic designer based in Athens, where I studied for a BA in Graphic Design and a Master’s degree in Cultural Management. I love designing logos, books, and engaging infographics, especially in the fields of culture, publishing, and printing. I have worked as a member of the creative department of retail, advertising, and the public sectors. Museums, cultural institutions, exhibitions, and new technologies intrigue me, and I am always curious about what’s next.

Proofreader

Language is my passion. Indeed,

my latest obsession is the etymology of words and finding connections and similarities between languages. Currently, I am a Teaching Fellow in Modern Greek Language and Culture and a collaborator of the Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies at the University of Leicester. In addition, I have been running one-to-one and group courses in Modern Greek Language as a freelancer for more than 12 years. Furthermore, I have extensive proofreading experience from various posts, having worked with various texts from academic to literature, graphic novels and television subtitles. I hold a BA degree in History and Archaeology (2010) from the University of Athens, with a focus on the Ancient World, so working at Isegoria fulfils all my interests at a single stroke!

Social Media Manager and 

Creative Content Producer

A trained archaeologist (BA, National University of Athens), blogger, and Instagrammer, I tend to all things social, populate, update, and beautify the website. I will catch you up on our YouTube channel, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram accounts, sharing our news, stories, activities, breakthroughs, collaborations, and happy moments. I will also be working in the background to support and energise the team, and generally make our webpages look great. 

Creative Consultant

Copywriter, strategic thinker, and explorer of the wondrous world of aesthetics. I have extensive experience in crafting concepts and effective copy for big brands and I have to say, there has never been a dull moment! 

For Isegoria and Pnyx, I help the team bring their creative vision to life through organising brainstorms (at almost antisocial hours) and offering guidance on how to build a visual identity and tone of voice that resonates with scholars. Our ultimate goal is to build a down-to-earth, accessible space that invites researchers from all four corners of the world to share their marvellous work and much-needed knowledge.  

Accountant and Business Adviser

I am a commercially oriented interim finance director with a 'big four' professional accountancy qualification and wide and successful experience in the management of retail, wholesale, service, and manufacturing businesses. For Isegoria, I will be monitoring business performance and cash flow, developing financial models, and consulting on strategic planning. 

My experience is in both UK and international markets and I excel in the development and implementation of strategic plans. I enjoy hands-on problem solving and have a high rate of achievement as well as an appetite for new challenges. 

I specialise in strategic and financial planning and business processes, supported by excellent financial modelling and scenario planning skills with experience of private equity backed businesses. 

I established my own business in July 2005 to provide interim management and part-time Finance Director services and have a broad portfolio of existing clients.

Academic Service Consultant

I am an experienced tutor with a track record of working in the teaching and learning/education sectors in China and abroad as an employee and a freelancer. Supporting learning is one of the most joyful and meaningful interactions and a highly rewarding experience, thus working with scholars of all levels is ideal. I have extensive networking in Higher Education, research, and scholarly contexts, and I take great pleasure in employing this for the benefit of people. Exactly this experience makes me even keener on further participating in educational events and academic consulting in Isegoria.

Editorial Assistant

I am a graduate of history (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen) and currently a postgraduate student (Radboud University, Nijmegen), with a passion for medieval European and Byzantine History. I hope to make the field more accessible by sparking passion for history and helping those who have access to less resources than I do. At Isegoria, I work as a Editorial Assistant, helping with seminar courses, modernising the communication of the company, and supporting the day to day operations.

 

Production Manager

After my Master’s in Business Management, I entered the e-publishing industry. My first assignment was as a project manager in an e-publishing company in Bengaluru, India. In a decade or so, I had the good fortune of working for some of the most coveted organizations in the industry.

Personally, I like talking to people and meeting new people. I am very much a people-centric person. This trait of mine is a great plus while handling customers, which is an art in itself. My biggest strength is creating a personal rapport with my customers. 

It has always been my dream to venture out on my own. I finally took the plunge in 2019 (https://epageimaging.org/). It has been four years since, and my work experience has been a great help. I also work as a freelance Managing Editor for SKINmed, one of the leading dermatology publications globally. It is helmed by the renowned dermatologist and Editor-in-Chief, Dr Lawrence Charles Parish, MD.

Besides work, chess is a passion of mine, and I have played a few tournaments. It has taught me interpersonal skills, and it also helps me to stay focused. 

I am currently associated with Isegoria as Production Manager involved in preparing layouts and final products (books and journal issues).
