Also known as copy editing in other contexts, this kind of editing digs deeper into the text to improve accuracy, ensure clarity, purge ambiguity, and achieve succinctness. The latter is the most important aspect of academic writing and should not be confused with brevity or conciseness. The art of being succinct requires delivery of the same message with as few words as possible.
